Hanukkah Dinner Reminder

by Jon Stout, December 13th, 2009, 4:43 pm

Hi Everyone…

Lynn Atzenhoffer is waiting to hear from you. Do you want to attend the Hanukkah Dinner next Friday, December 18? It starts at 6:00 p.m. Lynn will provide the chicken and latkes, and you can bring a NON dairy dish to share. Cost is $4 per person (a bargain!), maximum $15 for a family.

If you want to join us, contact Lynn whizzy-zip at home and let her know. (Members, check the Directory for Lynn’s contact information.) Or, she plans to be here Sunday morning for Religious School, so you could speak to her then.

  • Can you be here at 5:30 p.m.to help set up Ratner Hall for the dinner?
  • Can you help serve?
  • Can you help clean up?
  • Let Lynn know.

Once we’re finished with supper, we will troop up to the Sanctuary for Hanukkah candlelighting and a Service at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your menorah. The children will cover the windowsills with aluminum foil to catch the drips and we will light ALL EIGHT CANDLES. It should look “awesome,” as my grandson would say.
After the Service, it’s back downstairs for an Oneg and dreidel games. A very festive Shabbat!

Social Action Committee Volunteer Opportunity

by Jon Stout, November 25th, 2009, 1:57 pm

Submitted by Barbara Feldmar, Social Action Co-Chair:

I would like to let everyone know that there is a great opportunity to volunteer some time near the Christmas holiday this year. The Salvation Army is organizing a Christmas Distribution Program on Wednesday December 16 and Thursday December 17, to set up at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University to distribute toys, coats and food vouchers on the first day, and families and adults to come to pick up items on the second day.

If you are interested, please contact me so I can have some idea of who is interested, how many can participate, and if you have questions I will try to get them answered. I will forward all our information on to the Salvation Army. Send me your phone or email too, and I will organize our volunteers to meet together if that can be done.

I look forward to hearing from you, and hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

Members can contact Barbara by looking up her email address or phone number in the Online Directory.

A plea for a new computer

by Jon Stout, November 23rd, 2009, 6:00 pm

Email recently sent out through the Temple mailing list that I decided to post here – not sure who it’s from (Pat?):

Hi everyone…
The temple office computer is showing its age. It is s..l..o..w starting up. It likes to stop and think awhile before it makes a move. It gets cranky and temperamental and says “NO, I WON’T DO THAT, AND YOU CAN’T MAKE ME, HEH, HEH, HEH.” It likes to freeze up, with a little white hand on the screen.
I am almost afraid to type these words–because then it will know what we are planning–I wish I could whisper them in your ear–somewhere away from the office where the computer couldn’t hear, but here goes…we need to replace this computer with a new one.
There, I said it! And it didn’t freeze up, so I will plunge ahead.

***

Luis asked me to put out the word to all of you in hopes that you may have a Windows PC that is less than 5 years old that you would be willing to donate to the temple office. Call Luis, or email him to discuss it.

***

A heartfelt thanks will go out to whoever steps up to the plate with a sparkly new computer for the temple office!
