Unique Musical Opportunity

posted by Myrna Pendery on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Musician Steven Greenman is heralded throughout the Jewish world for his work as a teacher, composer and performer of East European Jewish Klezmer violin music. As a concert performer, he has been guest soloist with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Canton Symphony and the Akron Symphony. His appearance at Beth Israel has been made possible through the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland’s Fund for the Jewish Future and is supported through the educational resources of the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland.

While this program will be enjoyable in itself, you will find it even more wonderful if you return to perform the piece on Simchat Torah when the congregation celebrates the completion of the Torah reading cycle of the last year and begins the process again with the story of Creation. The Simchat Torah service will be Friday, October 21 at 7:00pm. There will be one additional group rehearsal of the music on Sunday, October 16, from 10:15-11:15am.

So dust off your instruments and mark all the dates in your calendar now!

Greater Cleveland Congregation Initial Meeting

posted by Myrna Pendery on Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Since late fall and this past winter, many of the members of our congregation have come together to express their concerns and visions for a better Cleveland.  We met.  We talked.  We found that you have wonderful ideas for congregational action and insightful suggestions for local concerns.  We then shared our conversations with the larger Cleveland community.

And now, on Monday evening, June 6th, at 7:30 p.m., at the Masonic Auditorium in Cleveland, the Founding Assembly of the Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC) will convene and share our issues with the leaders of Cleveland — and formally begin our work to help make Cleveland the best it can be.

Please let me know if you can attend – we’re hoping to bring a contingent of 18 from our congregation… We can meet at temple (at 6:15 p.m.) and drive together…

Along with our Social Action committee co-chairs, Barbara Feldmar and Laurie Levenson, I thank you for your past participation and look forward to bringing our Social Action agenda to life.

Youth Group Luncheon and Talent Show

posted by Myrna Pendery on Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

Come one, come all to the First Annual Youth Group Talent Show. ALL AGES are invited (yes that includes adults), with loads of fun goofy prizes to be awarded! Got a special talent? Time to show it off! Got no talent?? Even better! Read the phone book for 3 minutes in a silly animal voice…
It’s all for a great cause. The money we raise will go toward providing financial support to help our students attend regional Youth Group events, as well as other Jewish activities throughout the year.  It all starts with a Yummy Luncheon right after Sunday School on SUNDAY JANUARY 30, and then upstairs for the show. You can buy tickets that day (we’ll let you know about the price very soon). If you want to sign up to be in the show, you can contact Mara Atzenhoffer .  And if you want to donate some tasty food for the luncheon (which we hope you do!), please contact David Rosen at 440-785-7239. Thank you!!
