Musician Steven Greenman is heralded throughout the Jewish world for his work as a teacher, composer and performer of East European Jewish Klezmer violin music. As a concert performer, he has been guest soloist with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Canton Symphony and the Akron Symphony. His appearance at Beth Israel has been made possible through the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland’s Fund for the Jewish Future and is supported through the educational resources of the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland.
While this program will be enjoyable in itself, you will find it even more wonderful if you return to perform the piece on Simchat Torah when the congregation celebrates the completion of the Torah reading cycle of the last year and begins the process again with the story of Creation. The Simchat Torah service will be Friday, October 21 at 7:00pm. There will be one additional group rehearsal of the music on Sunday, October 16, from 10:15-11:15am.
So dust off your instruments and mark all the dates in your calendar now!

PEI is a program of the Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Network (JVN) to further our mission of tikkun olam (healing the world). PEI provides training, an on-site coordinatior and a structured supplemental reading program and materials. It also oversees efforts to recruit a corps of caring volunteers from all faiths to help build reading skills and one-to-one relationships with students. The program functions during school hours as a supplementary program, apart from the school’s regular reading curriculum. As a result of this program, hundreds of volunteers have come together to read, write, play learning games and build relationships. We ask PEI tutors to commit at least one hour a week.
Become a PEI tutor and make a difference in a child’s life today! Contact Jessie Bruder at jbruder@jcfcleve.org or 216-593-2869

David: Poet, Warrior, Politician, Lover and Hero. Taught by Professor Ronald Brauner. This is a study of the many dimensions of one of the most famous persons in history, using classical and modern sources. By popular demand Beth Israel- The West Temple is joining with The Siegal College of Jewish Studies to offer another course by Prof. Ron Brauner – and you don’t have to travel all the way to Beachwood to take it. It will be taught for six weeks via teleconference in Ratner Hall at Beth Israel on Tuesdays, 7:30 – 9:30 pm starting on September 14. The cost of the course is $135. Prof. Brauner has just announced his intention to retire at the end of this academic year, so this may be the last time you have the opportunity to learn from a renowned master teacher and scholar. Registration instructions: Call Ruth Kronick at 216-464-4050 ext. 101 and tell her you will be taking the course at Beth Israel. You may pay by credit card over the phone.
