Library Survey

posted by Myrna Pendery on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012
In an effort to meet the needs of our congregation and perhaps to the general community, we want to know what your expectations and dreams are for the library. Please take a few minutes to answer a few questions to help us plan the librarys’ future. If we have not addressed issues that are on your mind regarding the library, please be sure to give us your comments. When the survey is complete, committee members will make personal calls to congregation members to pursue in depth the responses received (for those who’ve given us their names). This will help us improve services as well as develop a Library mission statement. Many thanks for your assistance.
Please email the completed survey to Scott Machol at:  scottmachol@yahoo.com or drop them off at the Temple Office by February 29.

Do Young Children Think Deep Thoughts?

posted by Myrna Pendery on Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Sunday February 12, 2012 at 10am,  join Dr. Jen Glaser as we explore “Do Young Children Think Deep Thoughts?” Join us if you are a parent, teacher, grandparent, aunt, uncle, philosopher, or someone who will find this interesting and enlightening..

Are young children capable of reflecting on the deeper mysteries of life? Do they think about such profound matters as: What is time? What makes something valuable? Why do bad things happen to good people? What is the nature of friendship and fairness?
Parents and teachers often take note of, and retell, the curiously deep things that children say but then wonder whether children really understand the nature of the questions they raise. Are they truly capable of engaging in philosophical reflection?
Come and join Dr. Jen Glaser, internationally renowned scholar in the field of philosophy for children, as we explore this topic.

Greater Cleveland Congregation Update

posted by Myrna Pendery on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Latest news from Greater Cleveland Congregations:

“Thanks to all our core team leaders and issue action team members who participated in last week’s Delegate Assembly. [Rabbi Enid Lader and Laurie Levinson were there...] GCC unanimously ratified the action plans from our Criminal Justice and Health Care teams in an integrated campaign between now and the March 6 primary election. When GCC acts, we all act together! We will organize a County Prosecutor Candidate Accountability Action on Monday, Feb. 20 from 7-9 pm at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple (23737 Fairmount Blvd, Beachwood) at which the gathered GCC membership (current turnout commitments: 680) will ask the candidates to commit to improving the way the office handles crucial issues in the criminal justice system. GCC cannot and will not endorse candidates.”

Beth Israel – The West Temple is hoping to bring at least 10 people to this program on Feb. 20th. If you would like to attend — we can meet at temple at 6:15 p.m. and drive together. RSVP to Rabbi Enid (eclader@aol.com).

When GCC acts, we all act together!
